I think I fell off the Substack wagon for a bit and haven’t post anything in a while. As the holidays approached, Son #1 became sick and went on to share the germs with everyone else in the family. Everyone took their turns with me being the last to get sick into the new year. And of course Christmas holidays means that publishers are pretty much closed for a week or more, and then after the holidays comes the “we need is ASAP” rush. Ugh. Lots of work, but at least it all got done in time. The sad thing is that after a full 8-10 (or more) hours of sitting at the drawing board or computer, doing more drawings for Substack or YouTube was just too much. Gotta get those kids off to school early the next day, y’know! But things are finally getting back to normal and under control, or as normal as the daily grind will allow.
Still trying to explore shapes and lines. Did this quick sketch in Corel Painter last night. Funny how I’m still not used to the Painter palettes and how some of the brushes work after spending years on earlier versions of Painter.
Wasn’t sure where I was headed with it, I just let the marks take me wherever. Spent maybe an hour or so on it. I’ll probably go back to it when time allows and play with it some more.
For this past Black Friday I had taken advantage of BritBox’s sale of $1.99 for 2 (or 3?) months. There was a show my wife had wanted to check out, and the timing of the sale was perfect. So I dived in, and found some well reviewed crime series, and I can heartily recommend these to you. In SHETLAND, DI Jimmy Perez and his crew of Shetland police officers and detectives solve pretty complicated crimes on the archipelago of Shetland, Scotland. The island of Shetland has a population of about 22,000. If the murder rate on the show there were real, it would be the 11th most dangerous place to live ! In reality the island has had about two murders in the past 50+ years. Hey, it’s a TV show and a darn good one. Highly recommended.
Also highly recommended is LINE OF DUTY. The Anti-Corruption Unit 12, AC-12, investigates dirty cops along with all the political and familial machinations that come with all that. Completely engrossing and great, with some real WTF moments. Four seasons of show are available on Hulu and Peacock. Five seasons are on BritBox.
Thanks again for your time and support.
