No, it’s not Sydney Greenstreet, or Alexander Yardley, his character in Christmas in Connecticut. I’m pretty bad at at naming pieces. If asked, I tend to go for the obvious things like Woman with Red Line or Late Night Painting 12. It’s not a late night painting, but since I’ve been up all day, it’s close. Another exploration of scribbles and lines. Sydney Greenstreet would have been much more round, and all I think of is his black mass in The Maltese Falcon. This piece is perhaps a more modern interpretation of Rita Hayworth in Gilda? I’m not quite sure why I’m playing with the lines, but isn’t that what all artists do? Play with lines? And if not lines, then forms and color?
Maybe I had the works of Franz Kline and Willem deKooning in mind…. it’s a stretch, but… throw in some usual comicbookisms and…
Franz Kline. Bethlehem (1953–54)
Willem de Kooning. Seated Woman (1940)
That’s all for today. Thanks for you time and support.

I always think Kline is inking nirvana when you see the brush so close and wish you could turn it into a finished work
