20 years ago... Y: The Last Man #20
Wow. It’s been twenty years. Twenty years since Y: The Last Man issue # 20 shipped to stores. According to my research, its on sale date was March 3, 2004.
I have memories of working on some of the issue, while other parts are a complete blank. It was a pleasure working with Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra back then. Would love to work with them again if the opportunity arose.
I’ve been going through and scanning my old artwork, and it was nice seeing these. I always knew I had them since I never sold many of the pages from that issue, but I hadn’t looked at them in years. Maybe twenty. It seems like a lifetime ago, and it’s certainly from a previous chapter in my life. A chapter that didn’t include wife and kids.
I think I did a nice job on the inks. I don’t know what else to say about them. I feel they have all the hallmarks of a good ink job. What would those be? I don’t have time for that now ;) Are there things I’d change? Sure, but on the whole, it’s good work.
I wonder if I have scans of Pia Guerra’s pencils somewhere? Before I had a scanner, I used to make xeroxes of pencil pages, just in case I needed to refer to them, had to make a correction, or God forbid the inks would get lost in the mail on the way to DC Comic’s offices. By this time I had a scanner and would scan everything, but now the question is where are those scans? What drive or CD? Oh well.
Anyway, have to do stuff around the house… Thanks for spending time going down memory lane with me. I have more old Y pages (as well as other jobs) that I’ll post in the near future.
